Trains of the Deutsche Bahn’s regional railway service for Schleswig-Holstein (DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein/RBSH) have integrated boarding aids such as automatic and mobile ramps. The facilities also include wide boarding doors, spacious multi-purpose areas and wheelchair-accessible toilets. Although wheelchair users can generally board and get off trains without prior notification, we nonetheless recommend them to register on Deutsche Bahn’s Mobility Service Centre for planning barrier-free trips.
The Mobility Service Centre can be contacted at Tel. 0044 (0) 8718 80 80 66 or 001 (0) 646 88 33 264. Further information on barrier-free travel with the RBSH is available at www.bahn.de.
Boarding and getting off trains of the Nordbahn railway company is made easier thanks to low-floor entries and modernised platforms. At older stations, the height difference between train doors and the platform is compensated by ramps. Many of the stations are equipped with guidance and directional aids for the blind and visually impaired.
Travel safely and comfortably to your destination within Dithmarschen with the Dithmarschenbus bus service. Dithmarschenbus boasts a modern fleet and the majority of the vehicles are low-floor buses that allow convenient access for the disabled. By using the option of registering for a specific route, passengers can ensure that low-floor buses are deployed for that particular route. For further information, go to www.dithmarschenbus.de or call +49-(0)481-69881673.
The Rufbus für Dithmarschen call-a-bus service, or RuDi for short, is a good alternative for getting to your destination outside regular bus service hours. RuDi is an on-demand taxi/bus service that you can call and order 45 minutes before the time specified in the timetable (tel.: +49-[0]1805-935005). When ordering, please specify whether you also require a wheelchair to be transported.
Almost all taxi companies in Dithmarschen have a fleet with vehicles equipped to transport passengers with reduced mobility. For more information, look up the regional business directories, for instance the >yellow pages.
On these beaches, guide dogs kept on a leash may accompany the blind and physically disabled.
The Büsumer Deich (Büsum dyke) is fully barrier-free. At the main entrance and on the Watt’n Insel lagoon, ramps lead visitors directly to the mudflats, while a barrier-free jetty on the Perlebucht lagoon allows visitors to directly access the water. In addition, there is also a lift to the dyke next to the open-air staircase at the main entrance. Furthermore, mudflat wheelchairs and floating wheelchairs are also available for hire. Thanks to the mudflat wheelchair, people with reduced mobility can also participate in a mudflat hike. For further information on barrier-free mudflat hikes, go to:

Many institutions dedicated to the fascinating natural beauty and history of Dithmarschen are modernised to the extent that they have very few, if at all, barriers for the disabled. As you can see, there are virtually no restrictions to stop you from enjoying your stay and discovering Dithmarschen.
Both harbour seals and grey seals live in the Friedrichskoog seal station. In the exhibition, there is a kids area, a cinema and a bistro. Most areas of the Friedrichskoog seal station are wheelchair-accessible. Near the entrance, specifically designated parking bays are available for the disabled.
