Welcome to Brunsbüttel

Port town with locks and sluices

We welcome you with a crisp but warm “Moin” (Howdy) and are pleased to learn that you’re interested in our town. A port town with locks and sluices, Brunsbüttel has plenty of attractions: not only do you get to see some of the largest ships from all around the world, you can also almost touch them.

Schleusenstadt Brunsbüttel with locks and sluices

Apart from a stroll, a trek or a bicycle trip along the main attraction, the Schleusenmeile Brunsbüttel (the Brunsbüttel lock route), every visitor should plan at least one trip to the historic town centre. It’s worth it. Splendid half-timbered houses and the lovingly designed museum of local history stand shoulder to shoulder around the impressive Jakobuskirche church. Relax on a bench and enjoy the charm of “mediaeval” Brunsbüttel.

As you can see – depending on what you’re interested in, you can be physically active or simply unwind, explore the attractions and cultural heritage, watch boats big and small in the Kiel Canal and on the River Elbe, or take a leisurely stroll through the town and enjoy the shopping experience on the Koogstrasse.
