Winter wonderland
and Christmas

The cold season in Dithmarschen

For many, winter and the pre-Christmas period are the most wonderful time of the year. A sea of lights illuminates the city centers and invites you to stroll through the city. Outside, it is bitterly cold, and the desire for mulled wine and freshly roasted almonds is growing. If you are spending the winter and Christmas season in Dithmarschen, you should not miss a stroll through our most beautiful Advent and Christmas markets.

The sun is low over the mirror-smooth North Sea. A fine, glittering layer of frost covers the sleeping salt marshes. The dike lies there, lonely and abandoned. Walking along the dike, for example in Speicherkoog near Meldorf, in the tranquil Westerdeichstrich or Büsumer Deichhausen, or along the North-Ostsee-Kanal, snugly wrapped up, defying the cold and experiencing a unique, bizarre, sometimes frozen-in-time North Sea landscape - it doesn't get more original than that.

With these impressions and blown through by the wind, one looks forward to a cozy, strengthening hour in the country café, a relaxing sauna session, or a hot mulled wine at one of our Christmas markets in Dithmarschen.

By the way: you can also go on a mudflat hike in the winter! National Park watt guides offer tours in the Wadden Sea all year round. You can find the dates in our event calendar.
